Finance Tracker Importer

Help & Support

Updated October 2026

Getting started

  1. Make your copy of the Household Finance Tracker template and list your accounts on the Accounts tab (label, type, last 4 digits only).
  2. Install Finance Tracker Importer, then open Extensions > Finance Tracker Importer > Import statements.
  3. Pick your downloaded statement files (QFX/OFX, CSV or QIF), confirm the account for each, and click Import.
  4. Categorize anything left blank, then run Learn rules from my categories so next month needs fewer fixes.

The first-import guide explains Google's permission screen, and the product page has a bank-by-bank download guide.

Common fixes

"Missing tab Transactions"

The importer works inside the tracker template. Open your copy of the template, not a blank spreadsheet.

Card purchases came in as income

On Accounts, set Import: amount sign to flip for that card, delete its rows and import again.

File not matched to an account

Add the last 4 digits on Accounts, or a word from the file name in Import: file name contains.

Permission or authorization error

Run Import statements again and tick both boxes (or Select all) on Google's screen.

Contact and bug reports

Email njayakanthan@gmail.com. Describe what you clicked and what you saw. Please do not send statements, spreadsheets or account numbers; a screenshot with numbers blurred is enough. Replies usually within a few days.

Remove the importer

Extensions > Add-ons > Manage add-ons, then remove Finance Tracker Importer. You can also revoke access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Your spreadsheet and its data stay as they are.
