Finance Tracker Importer ("the importer") is a Google Sheets script and add-on that reads bank and card statement files you choose and writes the transactions into your own Household Finance Tracker spreadsheet. This policy explains what Google user data it touches and what happens to it. The short version: your data stays in your spreadsheet, and the developer never receives it.
Google user data the importer accesses
| Permission (OAuth scope) | What the importer does with it |
|---|---|
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets.currentonlyView and manage spreadsheets that this application has been installed in | Reads and writes only the spreadsheet the importer is used in: the Transactions, Accounts, Rules and Categories tabs, plus an Import Log tab it creates. It cannot open any other spreadsheet or file. |
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.container.uiDisplay and run third-party web content in prompts and sidebars inside Google applications | Shows the Import window and menu messages inside Google Sheets. |
The importer does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, Contacts, Calendar, your Google profile or any other Google service.
Statement files you choose
When you pick statement files (CSV, QFX, OFX or QIF) in the Import window, your browser reads them and passes their text to the importer, which runs inside your Google account. From each transaction it keeps only the date, description and amount, and writes them into your spreadsheet together with the account label you picked. Statement files are not uploaded to Google Drive or anywhere else, and they are not kept after the import finishes.
How the data is used
Data is used only to provide the importer's features for you: parsing your statements, skipping duplicate rows, applying your categorization rules, pairing transfers between your own accounts, and suggesting new rules from categories you chose. It is not used for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or training of machine learning or AI models.
Storage, sharing and the developer
- All data stays in your own spreadsheet in your Google account. The importer has no server, database, analytics or tracking.
- The importer makes no network requests outside Google Sheets. Nothing is sent to the developer or to any third party.
- Error logging to the developer is turned off, so error messages are shown only to you.
- The developer cannot see your spreadsheet unless you choose to share it with them.
Retention and deletion
Your data remains in your spreadsheet until you delete it. To stop the importer's access, remove the add-on (Extensions > Add-ons > Manage add-ons) or delete its script from your copy (Extensions > Apps Script), and revoke access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Because the developer holds no copy of your data, there is nothing else to delete.
Limited Use
Finance Tracker Importer's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Security
The importer runs inside Google's Apps Script environment under your own Google account, and its access is limited to the two permissions above. Its full source code is published on the product page so anyone can check what it does.
Children
The importer is meant for adults managing household finances and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the importer ever needs a new permission, it will ask you through Google's permission screen before using it.
